FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Cryogenic Pump Services

Answers to common questions about cryogenic pump overhaul, testing, spare parts, and field service support.

Cryogenic Pump Repair & Overhaul

We repair and overhaul cryogenic pumps manufactured by JC Carter, Nikkiso, Ebara, ACD, and Cryostar.

Yes. We manufacture and supply replacement parts including Cryogenic bearings, Wear rings, Impellers, Inducer, Pump shafts, Rotor assemblies, Terminal headers, Cryogenic cable assemblies (Power, Instrumentation), End bell assemblies, Motor housings, Cryogenic motors, Accelerometers

Yes. Our experienced field service engineers provide worldwide onsite support for LNG carriers, shipyards, and dry-docking projects. Our services include cargo pump inspection, troubleshooting, overhaul supervision, installation support, commissioning, maintenance, emergency repairs, performance evaluation, and technical assistance for submerged cryogenic cargo pumps and related equipment.

Yes. Most cryogenic pumps can be repaired or overhauled if the major pressure-containing components remain serviceable. A professional inspection determines whether repair or replacement is the most economical solution.

Turnaround time depends on the pump model, condition, inspection findings, spare parts availability, and testing requirements. Emergency repairs and expedited service can often be arranged to minimize downtime.

A complete overhaul includes full disassembly, cleaning, dimensional inspection, replacement of worn components such as bearings, bushings, wear rings and seals, reassembly, testing, and final inspection.

We provide spare parts, pump repair and overhaul, failure analysis, troubleshooting, performance evaluation, onsite field service, commissioning, maintenance support, and engineering solutions for FSRU, FLNG, LNG regasification terminals, and high-pressure send-out pumps worldwide.

Cryogenic Pump Troubleshooting

Typical signs include excessive motor amperage, reduced flow or pressure, abnormal vibration, unusual noise, and declining hydraulic performance.

Common causes include worn bearings, operating below the minimum recommended flow rate, a clogged impeller, internal damage, or a damaged rotating assembly.

Possible causes include incorrect motor rotation, internal leakage, blocked passages, worn wear rings, damaged impellers, or insufficient suction conditions.

Common causes include worn wear rings, damaged gaskets or O-rings, internal leakage, clogged impeller or diffuser passages, damaged impellers, or incorrect rotation.

When operating in reverse, a centrifugal cryogenic pump typically produces significantly lower discharge pressure and reduced motor current compared to normal operating conditions.

Maintenance & Inspection

The motor insulation resistance should normally be at least Mega Ohms before startup. If readings are lower, the motor should be dried in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations before operation.

Yes. A repaired or rewound stator should undergo insulation resistance testing and high-potential testing to verify electrical integrity before being returned to service.

Bearings should be thoroughly cleaned, inspected for wear, corrosion, roughness, pitting, or galling, and replaced if any damage is found.

The cooldown procedure depends on the pump manufacturer and application. Pumps should always be cooled gradually according to the manufacturer’s operating instructions to minimize thermal stress and prevent component damage.

It is safe because most cryogenic hydrocarbon liquids are nonconductive, meaning they will not cause a short circuit in the motor windings. Furthermore, because the storage vessels are oxygen-free, there is no risk of combustion or explosion inside the tank

The pump uses the cryogenic liquid itself for cooling and lubrication. A portion of the pumped fluid is routed through the motor and across the bearings to remove heat. This is highly efficient because the intense cold allows for a much smaller motor than a traditional air-cooled version.
